ALEXANDRA CHAMBERS

Glass Artist, ACT, Australia

ALEXANDRA CHAMBERS

My new body of work is focused on creating a historical timeline of objects that playback music. I am interested in using glass, and other found materials, to construct an "evolution of technology" to capture my enjoyment of listening to music, on the different devices used over the years, with a bit of humour and fun. I am fascinated by the idea that in my lifetime alone, I have experienced listening to music on many different pieces of equipment. I wish to bring similar memories to the viewer, as music is a historical and universal language we can all relate to.

I’m interested in combining historical and contemporary designs whilst utilizing my own sense of humour and fun, creating different components into still life moments of time. I enjoy using historical glass blowing methods, and bold colour combinations to create rich and vibrant details in my work.

Alexandra Chambers currently lives in Canberra and enjoys teaching lampworking and glassblowing throughout Australia, and overseas.
