Memories are the source, fragments of information with which to build. I am always collecting, collating and comparing. I especially enjoy finding structures, forms, details and patterns which suggest an underlying geometric order in the universe, and finding visual relationships between the infinitely small and the universal in scale.

Invention is the method for creating, trying actions and feeling reactions, making and breaking rules, responding to the interplay of forces. Beginning a work I set rules of generation to be followed or subverted. As the work grows (whether it is throwing a series of bottle forms, or the drawings on an individual piece) I am responding to the interplay of large and small shapes, light and dark, linear and solid, texture, tone and rhythm I have created. I enjoy the delicate friction between surface and depth, and bounce between 2D and 3D works to compare discoveries.

These works have travelled a path from eye to brain, to hand, through the materials and processes, by way of memory and invention.... into being. If making is a statement of what you know about the world, then these pieces must be not just what I see, but how I see and understand my world. I hope that they are works which do not directly imitate nature, but parallel its dynamics.
